There was a lot of problem solving that went into the design because of how small the space is. For convenience, it’s best if the rod is built-in but removable ones work well too.Ī few months ago, in an earlier journal entry, I shared the design process for this space, the options we provided for the clients, as well as transferable design tips. Though the rods don’t take up much space when they aren’t in use, it does take some advanced planning to make sure there is enough depth for the clothes to hang. Include a drying rod for drip drys, and for a place to hang clothes as they are taken out of the dryer. Include clear floor space for sorting laundry and for the collection of dirty items. With that said, when designing the laundry room cabinets, design them in such away that they easily accommodate items that are typically needed or stored in laundry rooms. This might go without saying but it really is what drives the design basics of high-task areas, like laundry rooms.

The counter can serve as a place to fold laundry and / or for storage.Ī place for everything, and everything in its place. That way a counter top can be added above, or to the side if they are stackable. How do you get everything you need in a laundry room design when you have only a small amount of space? It might sound like a bit of riddle but with careful planning it can be done.įor this journal entry, I’m sharing progress photos and design tips on how we achieved a well designed laundry room with a minimal amount of space at the Water Vista Project.Ĭustom cabinets are the way to go! This is typically what I would say, no matter the space, but in situations where every inch counts, and it requires lots problem solving to even make the space work, then custom cabinets become an absolute must.
